    There were some pretty great dogs there and the pay was fair.

    Contras

    The insurance was expensive as hell. They had dogs with severe behavioral issues that should not have been allowed there. I've seen a pit bull attack several dogs for no reason and yet the dog was allowed to stay. I was barely trained and went I brought it up I was ignored. They expected me to master this "alpha" mentality in 4 months. I was fired for "poor performance" despite being active, always there and on time... when the assistant manager had a grudge with me being a diabetic. Other people who came in hours late or called out often were promoted.

    Company is starting to get it's $h-it together. They offer benefits and offer job security if this is your career path. You get to see adorable dogs everyday and the people who work for you (and vice versa) are friendly.

    Contras

    However, they are in a process of management changes; the management turnover rate is high, as is the employee rate. They give you the run around with promotions, yet expect you to perform the job that they have not officially given you. If they treated their employees a little better, they would definitely have a higher retention rate.

    Working with dogs. That is the only pro. everything else sucks.

    Where to begin? Corporate does not care about their employees. The only "benefits" that are given to employees are required by law. Before these laws were in place the lower level employees received nothing - no medical, no paid days off. They don't really care about the dogs - only getting things done as cheap as possible,How is it possible that a store that's barely 2 years old is already falling apart? Build your... stores better, use better materials. Spend a little money and it won't be such a POS. Paying their employees minimum wage and paying people well below their worth. I'm sure the higher ups are making an excessive amount though. Problems in the store are just blamed on other people. No real leadership. They treat their best employees like crap and fire them when there are problems even though it's not their fault they had no help. This is hands down a horrible place to work.

    Pay people what they are worth. Fix the issues in your stores. Stop going the cheapest route - it does not work. Give your employees raises and stop bringing in new people who don't know anything and paying them more than people who have been there for years. Give better benefits.

    Company is run horrible. They only let the lazy people stay. If your a hard worker they will just fire you. The president and Chief of operations have no clue what they are going. I was promised 31 days by the chief of operations and the next day they fired me. If you fill out a report card, that doesn't mean that you gave that animal to a runner, that person should of signed it. I was let go cause other... people didn't know how to do their jobs. This company is crap.

    Contras

    Young employees not caring for these dogs. To busy on their phones not seeing a dog Rolling in urine or feces. Tons of yelling at the dogs if they're to loud or misbehaving.

    There are dogs there. Dogs are great. The people working with the dogs generally seem to care about them, even the dogs who bite them and cause problems with other dogs. When one dogs was identified as having fleas, he and his housemate were immediately sent upstairs for a flea dip. The workers really do try to stay on top of things.

    Where do I begin? The place is FILTHY and rundown. The pee and poop is smeared around on the floor with a wet mop containing bleach and floor cleaner, which the dogs then roll around in. There has got to be a better way to clean up after the dogs. There seems to be no protocol for the various doors and gates leading to the dog room, not to mention that those doors and gates don't actually latch properly in many... cases. One back room had a large dog in a crate whose door was broken and held together with a piece of coat hanger. The dog was pushing the bottom of this broken crate door and almost getting his paw and snout caught in it. There was a room with over 50 dogs in it, most of them large, and the room was crowded like a subway car during rush hour. There was a least one VERY large dog there who frequently engaged other dogs in play that was too rough and then bit staff who tried to break it up. The staff try to control the dogs basically by screaming at them all day and forcing them to sit. They mean well, but obviously lack any real training in behavior management. There is a second room available, but is not currently in use due to a mold problem. The door to this room is half open and shares air with the main big dog room. The pay is horrible considering the fact that people are paying a lot and that these people are caring for their dogs. There is also no insurance offered, and the CEO is against the affordable care act.

    First, sink some money into the problem store in question. You know the one I'm talking about. Fix it. Clean it. Make it right. Next, hire actual dog trainers to train your staff. Third, pay your staff a reasonable wage for life in NYC and offer them a good health plan. I worked for a company with 20 employees and we had a great health plan. I'm sure you have enough buying power with as many employees as you have to... get great coverage for all your people. News flash: if you treat your employees with the regard you'd like for yourself, they will work harder for you! Wow!

    You get to interact with dogs on a daily basis.

    Contras

    No opportunity for professional growth despite being told of huge advancement opportunities. Also, dogs are not screened very thoroughly for appropriate behavior. Nothing is done if an employee is bit by frightful or aggressive or excited dogs. Not a safe environment for the animals or the employees.
