Applied online and had a call with HR two weeks later. HR indicated that the salary range I gave ($120-140k) could probably be met on the lower end. He told me to expect to hear from the hiring manager’s assistant and then went radio silent for a couple weeks. A couple weeks later I interviewed with hiring manager and our conversation went very well, but she indicated at the end of our conversation the starting salary for this position for someone like me (five years of relevant experience, licensed attorney with several financial designations) was $70-80k. That pretty much ended our conversation as I wasn’t willing to take a pay cut for what seems like a more difficult job.
