      I interviewed for a role that required deep knowledge of two subjects in which I am an expert. I've worked at companies where I've implemented this system and this way of working. I owned the process and system. I was the go-to, the "super user", as Cruise put it that they were looking for. The hiring manager showed up almost 15 minutes late. I emailed the recruiter right before she joined asking if everything was OK. Once the hiring manager did join, she was flustered and it took her another minute or two to get things going. Fine. That happens; we've all been there. I thought she and I had a great conversation discussing my experience and my approach to this role. Suddenly, the call dropped and my heart sank. This was about 20-ish minutes once we got going. I immediately logged back in; it took about a minute. There was no one online to let me in the virtual room. I dialed in on my cell; same thing. I emailed the recruiter and explained to her what happened. She replied and let me know the hiring manager said she was having technical difficulties and would ask if she'd want to continue the interview or give a yes/no decision. Two days and no response. I had to follow back up with the recruiter. About an hour or so later, the recruiter emailed me the template email we're all familiar with about "skills and experience not being a good fit for the role." Really? As the person whose career is partially built on these things, I'm not a good fit? How could anyone even determine that with the call dropping before the interview ended? If this how the company normally operates, then perhaps I dodged a bullet.
