Contacted by the hiring manager, via email. We set up a phone call, then I was asked to come in for an in-person interview, but I got the sense I'd gotten the gig by then. We discussed the rate on the phone, which was a little low. We did not discuss that the gig would be 1099 or W-2 (make sure you ask). We did not discuss their contract terms and how it would be determined when the project is over. Since it was a freelance gig based on a specific project, the compensation should have been for a full project not for an hourly rate. We did not discuss my terms as a freelancer, payment schedule, or any other topics that would normally come up for freelancers and client.
