Candidatei-me online. O processo levou 1 semana. Fui entrevistado pela Great American Insurance Group em mai. de 2011

      Entrevista

My initial communication with the company was applying online for the position. I was contacted via email to answer a few questions. I was further emailed to ask if I was interested to please confirm and they would set an interview time. I did this, and it was one week from the time I was first contacted. I was told I would receive a link to an online employment application, but did not receive this. I arrived early to the interview and the receptionist asked me if I received the online link. I told her no, and she handed me a clipboard with a paper application. I took the fifteen minutes to fill that out and turned it back in. I waited in the reception area and it was a bit sterile. I had the thought pop into my head that this is when they sit in front of the security camera and watch to see how you behave when alone. After about five to ten minutes, I was greeted by the person who would be interviewing me. She did not introduce herself by name, and was a bit odd with a flimsy handshake. I followed her into the secure area of the building and she took me to an empty office that had a laptop set up for the applicant. She asked me what I knew about the position, and wanted me to answer a list of questions about it. I answered all of her questions to the best of my ability and tried to be as explicit as possible about my experience and expectations etc. Once she was satisfied that I had answered all of her questions, she then asked if I had any questions. I did. I asked several questions about the position, and I felt that it was a bit difficult to speak in abstracts. I wanted to get a clearer picture of the actual work, and this seemed a bit elusive. She was satisfied, stood up, and told me that I would then speak to another manager. She left, and enter the next interviewer. He was pleasant, and also a bit odd. He reminded me of an ex-fiance who was the silent psychopath type who could be either really nice, or realllly mean if need be. I didn't let this intimidate me, and I welcomed his expertise about the topic matter and did my best to stay on track with his questions, that were incidentally all of the same questions I had been asked previously. When he was satisfied, and I had asked my questions, he then told me that the decision would be made soon after one more interview and they would let me know. He then turned me back over to the first gal, and she had me write a document of my own creation that would display my ability to write and work with Microsoft Word 2007. I did this and opened the door to let them know I was done. I then was thanked and taken back to the front to speak with a woman from the HR department. In yet another room, I was interviewed by the HR secretary that had emailed me about the job in the first place. She also had the same form with questions and filled out according to my responses. I am beginning to see a pattern and thought it was a bit strange that I was being interviewed by three people with the same questions; it was almost like the movie Groundhog Day. She was careful to ask me if I felt I would be a good fit for the position. Some of the questions were speculative and it is all based on "feelings." I explained that it is all very new to be meeting so many new people at once, and thus it makes it hard to feel completely "at home" and know right off if I would be a good fit. I think this is a two-way street and it also depends upon the report with the other people. I asked for the job, stayed positive, pointed out my strengths while being honest about areas that I want to grow in, and I think I did the best possible job interviewing. Will I get the job? I don't know. The HR gal told me that they would be making their decision today or tomorrow. It was a bit more urgent than the other two described, so maybe this was a clue that I wouldn't be offered the job. I feel good that I performed to the best of my ability, and all in all it was good practice. I think the interview process was way too long, and there was not enough of a friendly report coming from the two hiring managers. The HR director was much more personable and had a knack of putting you at ease. The other two were lacking in social skills ( I felt.) I also felt that for such a specific technical position, it didn't make much sense to have me create a Word document. It would have been nice to actually see and work with the software they use and show them how quickly I can learn and utilize their programs.
