Entrevista

1: 1 Chat with one of the Directors at their offices. He explained the business and what he was looking for and asked a few questions in terms of my experience and what I knew about their company. The interviewer didn't come across very enthusiastic and was fairly serious and unappreciative of my time as was 10 minutes late.

The hiring manager did not even spoke professional English and had just moved to the US and was hiring for a US based role. I was also ghosted for two weeks and then I recieved an email with the "moving with other candidates" I feel they lack direction and also feel that it's a Brazilian clique with 90 % of senior management is Brazilian with their usual red tape.

Entrevista

Series of interviews leading up to a mock client pitch. It was a very thoughtful process to fully understand both the motivation for the role and the company's mission. Seemed to be look for and be inclusive of diversity, experience, and growth potential.

I only went to the first step in the process which was a phone screen with the recruiter. I use the word phone screen loosely as this wasn't a phone screen as much as a sales pitch.

  • They didn't ask me any questions. They didn't qualify me for the position whatsoever. Just started the call and immediately went into a pitch. I had to stop her mid pitch to actually get to some useful questions.

My first 2 meetings were with individuals that relocated to America from Brazil, individuals that were clearly involved in the sales process and had been through numerous client facing meetings, calls and/or closing deals. I had good conversations and moved on to the 3rd phone / video interview. My 3rd interview was scheduled with someone who I thought was in sales. Thinking that I am interviewing with someone who has had experience running teams of sales reps, hitting quotas, etc., I had different questions for this individual than the other two interviews. The interview was somewhat similar to my other two conversations, nothing challenging at all regarding questions and short role play. I was notified two days after my last phone interview that Gympass was passing on me for next steps. While I was a little confused from the news, I wasn't totally surprised. I had discovered that the "sales interview" only had a Finance, Merger and Acquisition and Strategy background, which made it obvious that this individual has never made a cold call into an account during his career, or set and conducted any meetings specifically related to the sale of a product, let alone hitting a sales quota that he was assigned to him at any point in his tenure. I also found it funny that this individual had only been with the company for 2 weeks, and had yet to complete any training with the organization. Also during this conversation I asked detailed questions regarding the compensation plan. Apparently this is something you MUST AVOID if you are actively interviewing as a sales rep with this organization. The answers he gave were very confusing and quite honestly, scary as a candidate that is interviewing for a sales job. (Individuals that work in sales never take the jobs due to the base salary - FYI Gympass). They will try and sell you on the opportunity to get in with a growing organization, but to not discuss the compensation plan for a sales role is down right laughable. Could you imagine if you made it to the final interview and the comp plan an organization put in front of you was not in line with what your goals were or even your current compensation plan? If you are discussing a sales role with Gympass, please note that the compensation is paid quarterly and apparently being "finalized" and "tweaked" consistently. I never saw the final offer, so I can't say for sure how it is based, but this is what I have gathered so far. All in all, the company seems very legit, with a product that is pretty unique and disruptive. The founders and leaders are incredible educated, smart and have a great vision. Good luck if you're interviewing as a Sales Representative and remember, don't ask anything about compensation!
