      Candidatura

Candidatei-me online. O processo levou mais de 1 semana. Fui entrevistado pela Hibu (Scarborough, England) em mar. de 2014

      Entrevista

The first step involved an online GIA assessment. It took around 25 minutes to complete, and was rather easy, but was concerning as it seemed an irrelevant, overly generalist, yet convenient way to whittle down candidates and put them into neat little boxes. Once I had been called for an on-site interview and arrived at my destination, I was allowed to observe someone in the web writing department for around 10-15 minutes and ask questions. After this, I was interviewed by 2 interviewers. The questions were a bit rehearsed and not very natural ("Name three examples of...", "In the following scenario..."), which made them challenging to answer on the spot. Somewhat unfairly, a much greater emphasis was placed on customer service than the job description (which was for web content writing) had specified - this is not something I have a strong background in, so I was slightly out of my depth. I was then given spelling and grammar, proofreading and copywriting tests to complete by hand. I had just 15 minutes to do this in. I worked quickly, but just reading and writing out everything required much longer than the time allotted (the website copy that required proofreading alone was littered with errors, and each correction needed to be written out in full). Though I am used to working to strict writing deadlines, I found it impossible to finish everything in time, which was held against me when I was later given feedback. Had anyone been able to complete each section, I feel that they would have to produce something of questionable quality in order to do so, which is not a balanced measure of ability. The whole process was relatively fast (under an hour). I was told to expect a response within the day, but I waited a week without hearing back. I had to phone the recruiter they had advertised with and get them to prompt Hibu to respond, upon which I received a (negative) response sent, typically, by email. I found this inexcusably rude, since my interviewers had given me a specific time frame they said they'd respond within. They also knew how far I had travelled for the day (more than 200 miles), so to get back in good time, or at least give me the basic courtesy of letting me know the process would take longer than anticipated, would have been appreciated. This was worsened by the fact that it seemed they had known they would not hire me for some time (due to an incomplete test) and seemingly weren't going to bother letting me know until I put some pressure on them.
