I have a working knowledge gained over the past 22 years of practice in the Baylor Scott & White Health Care System where in several of their clinics I have worked in I carried a caseload of 18 - 30 adolescents that were CPS clients. I saw each of these patients every month. The patients were seen for depression, situational reactions to neglect, molestation, many of which were abusing street drugs. The patients ranged in age for 1 yr to 17 years of age . I had limited assistance from CPS as they were understaffed in the Travis & Williamson County area in the years I was working with this population. I kept in communication with the temporary foster parents that could have as many as 8 children they were assigned . I was blessed that 8 out 12 foster parents were exceptional in the care of their children. I a small number of temporary foster parents that were neglecting the children or actually abusing the children...and I worked with CPS to get these children removed from their temporary custodians. The children that were taking street drugs and needed urgent intervention I worked with area rehab hospitals and Child Psychiatrists to arrange admission and transport of the children.
