The recruiter and team made it explicitly clear they were only concerned about how well I can design in Figma, less about my 8 years+ of history of working as an experience designer, with an architectural background. I've always been told by higher ups that you hire the person for their attitude, willingness to learn software, their aptitude, and relevant transferable skills. Fetch was asking for about 3-5 years, I had about 2 years using Figma explicitly in my role. Figma is not a hard program to pick up. This software changes all the time. It was another red flag how much Fetch emphasised needing a strict amount of years with x program, when I know that I bring so much more to the table as a mature designer and now manager. It felt like they were looking for a pixel pusher and "unicorn" to do the IC technical work in a silo - not valuing other skills like critical thinking, strategy, stakeholder management, etc. The emphasis on the value of design thinking skills was not discussed. I wish them luck finding someone willing to do the work of at least 3 people. When I asked other questions about the maturity of their teams, or what their future looks like as a company, or their internal goals - I got very loose answers with a mild re-direct to "how great our company is." The entire experience left a bad taste in my mouth, and I most likely dodged a bad experience. Madison (the city) deserves better in the tech space.
