I had a phone interview for a position that I was more than qualified for and very excited to be considered for. I had been texting the director back and forth for a bit and she asked to call me to discuss the job some time today between 2-4pm.
Af 3:55pm she calls and tells me about the job and I have a few questions for her and we click really well, as I expected based on our previous text conversation. She started off with “Tell me about yourself and how your experience would benefit the success of this role”.
I was very prepared and had ideas and great examples and mentioned my research I was working on and my passions and my recent accomplishment of obtaining my Masters degree and how that helped me find my passion.
She then shifted the conversation to tell me about the 2 other top candidates she is considering for the role and how she knows them personally but they both just graduated with their RN. She tells me how great they are to work with and how she doesn’t feel I’m suited for this role and should try something in a different avenue.
Most of the call was her telling me how great the other people are. I have a Masters and experience…things required for this supervisory position and you just spent 10-15 minutes telling me how 2 new grad RNs are just so great? I’m sorry what?!
I’ve applied to so many jobs and this was such an odd experience. I’ve never had someone just straight up talk about the other candidates and put me down like that…
