After applying online, I received an email to come in for an interview— three weeks later. I believed I would be meeting the Parks and Recreation Director who emailed me for the interview, but instead, the interview was conducted by the Human Resources Manager and a Parks and Recreation Supervisor. I found the interview impersonal in comparison to other interviews I've had. The town employees didn't seem to have my Resume or Cover Letter in front of them, nor did they seem to have read them prior to the interview as they asked me to explain my prior work experience, education, and volunteer work. They didn't make much of an effort to make me feel comfortable or to talk to me in a manner that would allow them to get to know me better. They stuck to typical interview questions printed out on sheets of paper and kept their heads down while they jotted down my answers to their questions in the blank spaces. Much of the answers to these questions would have been provided to them in my resume and cover letter. I was disappointed that the details and requirements for the federal-government-funded Student Employment Experience Development Program were not included in the job advertisement. They did not make it clear to me whether I met the requirements and I can only presume that I didn't, for I didn't get the job.
