I asked questions about him to try to find out why a pen would be valuable and then sold the pen that way. They are looking for a consultive sales person. I then followed up the next day to say - if you are reading this perhaps you are still contemplating on whether or not to buy the pen...and proceeded to try to tip the scales. It was my thank you for the interview letter. It worked.
