I applied online and was invited to interview with the search committee on Zoom. There were five search committee members and one person on the committee was the person currently in the role I was interviewing for, and this person even said that they were leaving the university during the interview. It is out of the ordinary at best and outrageous at worst that the search committee includes the person who the new hire is meant to replace.
