Thank you for taking the time to review your interview experience with St. Jude. We are deeply sorry that you had such a negative interview experience with us. We assure you that your work experience and skills are highly esteemed because of the fact that you made it to the interview step of the process. The Recruiter and Hiring Manager were obviously impressed by what they reviewed in your background and with what you spoke to over the phone. The fact that you were not offered an onsite interview may be less a function of your performance in the interview as it was your overall fit for the department’s needs. Please don’t consider this a reflection on you. The ultimate goal in our hiring processes is to choose someone who is a good fit for the department and the organization. Some managers go about digging for that information differently, and personality differences can translate into miscommunication and misunderstanding. Sometimes personalities don’t translate well to the phone or even Skype/FaceTime either. This is not to say that we are chalking your negative review up to personality differences alone. Please know that the Director and Chair of this department have been made aware of this review and are taking steps to improve their process moving forward.
In regards to your providing multiple references. This is asked at different steps of the hiring process for different positions, completely based on Hiring Manager preference and Recruiter recommendation. We want our candidates to know that we fully understand if they are uncomfortable with providing references because they want to keep their job search confidential. Your references were likely collected but never contacted. For some candidates, it takes them a while to submit these references, so sometimes they are asked for at the beginning of the process to make sure we have them. We want you and other candidates to know that you are free to decline to submit these references until a later date. Just speak with your Recruiter to explain the situation.
Again, we are sorry that your interview worked out this way, but we thank you for taking the time to let us know areas where we can improve. We hope you at least got the interview experience you were looking for. Best of luck in your job search.
