Entrevista

First I had a recruiter call, then the manager gave me a phone screening. Post phone screening I was asked to come in for a interview. Offer received same evening.

Perguntas da entrevista
  • There is a stimulation that is very relevant to the job description. I would say you wouldn't need to prep for this - if you are a skilled product owner you should be able to do well on it.

Really bad experience. The first two rounds went well. Then, I interviewed with the hiring manager. He seemed to be not interested in me at the very first beginning. He didn’t ask anything about my experiences or my background. He only asked me two cases and one technical question. Then he ended the interview. At this time, only half of the scheduled interview time had passed. Then, my scheduled next round of interview was also canceled. It’s totally fine if he thought I’m not a good fit or I didn’t meet his needs, that he did not want to hire me. But this action is very disrespectful. I didn’t brag in my resume. If you want someone very experienced in some field, please be more careful in selecting candidates. Your time is very precious. Mine is, too. I spent at least one day preparing for the interview. Not only because I value this opportunity, but also because I want to learn something from the experience. For now, I feel it’s a total waste of time. I didn’t learn anything but got very upset from this experience.

Candidatei-me por meio de um recrutador. O processo levou 4 dias. Fui entrevistado pela The Washington Post em Aug 2021

Entrevista

Phone Screening was great and informative. Next step was a remote technical interview with 2 engineers, virtual white-boarding. The interviewers during step 2 were unprepared and unprofessional. The prep instructions given to me prior were completely different that what actually happened. Spent 80% of the interview downloading software, troubleshooting my dev environment, etc. Interviewers were visibly annoyed even though I explained that I was fully prepared according the the instructions given prior. In my opinion the interviewers should have rescheduled after they noticed this miscommunication. Instead they were condescending and mostly silent while they watched me update software on my computer for 30min. Told me I should have used a different computer, etc instead of saying they should have been prepared and sent actual requirements. The attitude of the interviewers was disappointing since I really liked my conversation with the hiring manager a few days prior

A call with a recruiter followed by a homework assignment that I then had to present to the hiring manager and other person. Then a final round where I had a 30-45 minute interview which those two people again. After that - silence. No rejection, no email, no phone call. After about 2 weeks I emailed the recruiter to ask if there was an update and got no response. In my opinion this is quite unprofessional and rude given the time and work I put into this interview and getting to the final stage. Additionally, in the first interview with the recruiter, he asked me my desired salary. I told him I would prefer to first here the budget for the role. He told me that he wasn't allowed to say. I then said that I would prefer to not give a salary range either and he said he wasn't allowed to move me on in the process until I did. So now I am forced to give a salary but they don't give me any information? This is also very strange and unprofessional in my opinion.

Candidatei-me por meio de um recrutador. O processo levou 3 semanas. Fui entrevistado na The Washington Post

Entrevista

This was my second time through with the Post, and (despite the offer) was my second bad experience. I interviewed for a lead role and received very positive feedback on what was (supposed to be) the process as described -- a screen, a combination behavioral/technical interview, and another leadership-oriented interview. However, the Post then decided to tack on another step in the process, around system/AWS design. As someone who has helped shape the interview process at his current company, I could tell that the engineer running this last step was very unprepared, and that this was something they were trying for the first time. I have done system interviews before, and have always done well; unfortunately, the engineer conducting this portion was very insistent that it was supposed to be "quick and easy," and, when I asked questions about constraints and parameters -- you know, systems-building 101 -- they were clearly annoyed and unable to answer the question well. They also confessed to me that they hadn't actually conceived of a solution to their own interview question. Later, I received an offer, but not one for the role I applied for, and the compensation number was, to be frank, insulting. It would have represented a large decrease from where I currently stand, and the Post was unwilling to negotiate with me.

Perguntas da entrevista
  • A pretty easy full-stack take home test. Standard, STAR-style behavioral questions. A really, really poorly thought-out AWS/systems interview that was tacked on for no apparent reason.

Candidatei-me online. O processo levou 2 semanas. Fui entrevistado pela The Washington Post em Jun 2021

Entrevista

I applied to a position where I met 80% of the listed requirements, and which said "It’s okay to not meet 100% of these requirements! We’re primarily looking for people who meet some of these requirements and are motivated to learn new technologies and expand their skill set." After the initial recruiter screen, I had a very brief technical screen, in which I was asked about my familiarity about technologies NOT listed in the job description. I was honest about having little-to-no experience in most of them, but stressed my willingness to learn. At the end of the interview, I asked what they look for in candidates. The response: "Mostly people who are familiar with the technologies we use." Not surprisingly, I ended up getting ghosted. Look, I understand that they need someone who's a good fit, but get the job descriptions and interviewers aligned on what exactly that means. My time was 100% wasted, I was never given a formal rejection, and not to mention both people I spoke with were rude and dismissive. Bullet dodged.

Sent out my resume, 3 days later did a HR screen followed by a technical screen. Within the same week I then scheduled a final round of interviews in which I was told to expect a follow up from HR within 3 days. After three weeks of waiting for a follow up from HR and multiple follow-up emails I still have not heard from HR. I understand delays with communication due to the pandemic but not notifying someone on if they received an offer after they reached out for an update is rude and reflects poorly on the Washington Post overall.

Candidatei-me online. O processo levou 3 semanas. Fui entrevistado pela The Washington Post em May 2021

Entrevista

I had a great interviewing experience that went along very quickly compared to other places I've interviewed with. I liked that my initial interview was with the Design Director rather than a recruiter which I believe allowed the interview process to go quicker instead of interviewing first with a recruiter and then team members afterward. After my interview with the Design Director, I met with that same Design Director with three other Design Managers for a 2-hour interview to present my portfolio and then answer behavioral questions related to the job role. The last phase after that was a design challenge that I was assigned and I met with the same managers to present my case study of the assignment. They reached out to me the following day to inform me that they were preparing an offer for me and that two other team members would like to briefly meet me (through Zoom). A recruiter called me after that (two days after presenting my case study) to provide me with an offer. The whole interview process took three weeks total and they were very open to working with my schedule as I worked full time. All my interviews took place via Zoom since this was for a remote role.

The process was very great and I enjoyed speaking to the recruiter. I was not asked any technical questions so this is cool too. Highly recommend applying to the Wash. Post

Typical interview process where I was called in and asked questions about who I am and my experience. Furthermore, I was able to ask them questions as well. The interview ended with them letting me know that they would call me back, which they did.
