HR reached out about a month after I applied. Had a phone screen that was simple and straightforward. She asked about how my experience aligned with the role and why I wanted to work at TripAdvisor. Seemed enthusiastic and very nice. Within a few days I got an invite for a first interview with the hiring manager. Odd experience. The interviewer didn’t say any greetings at the beginning of the call or really introduce herself, just began the call by saying something like “okay so here’s how this is going to go”. Seemed as if she didn’t want to be there. However was reasonably nice and explained the role, asked a few questions about my experience. Then said that they were looking for someone with a certain marketing experience (which I didn’t have). I found it odd that this required experience wasn’t laid out earlier or asked in the phone screen? Seems like it was a waste of time for both the interviewer and me. Feel like this could have been handled better. I never heard anything back after the first interview, not even a simple thanks but no thanks email. I feel if you have an official interview they should send a follow up even if the answer is no.
