it was a phone interview with 3 people. they asked me technical questions about my research. also, they asked me question if I am familiar with the models they are using.

I submitted a regular job application. eg. cover letter and resume with references. Next I had an interview over skype and that was it. The hiring process took very long, partly because it included paper work for an international researcher to get a visa. Still this process should go much faster.
