This company says that they are dedicated to transparency in the interview process.
Candidates for this role could expect three rounds of interviews. I was contacted by a recruiter who did an initial phone screen and passed my information off to the hiring manager. The second interview was technical and mostly a conversation. The interviewers were nice and easy to talk to. They talked about the importance of transparency on their end in their process quite a bit which I appreciated. Questions consisted of mostly SQL-related knowledge, as well as ETL. I was asked about my personal projects. The interviewers informed me that they preferred the conversational approach and they found that they could figure out what my skills were and what I was about in that interview via chatting.
I was asked to come in for a third and final interview which was supposed to be a "cultural fit" interview. I was interviewed by three engineers (no whiteboarding, just process, and tell us about yourself) as well as two managers. I talked about my desire to work with real-time ETL and data warehousing which I don't necessarily get to do with my current position. I also was asked what I would like to do in 5 years and I shared with them my interest in machine learning.
I did not get the job because I was perceived to be more interested in "data reporting" than engineering but the cultural fit was great? I am not sure how they came to this conclusion as I said many times that I am interested right now in doing more ETL and working with data warehousing and SQL? That was my entire conversation in the technical interview stage. But that is all they would give me. Not very transparent and a very confusing process. Why make all that effort to come into the office for a final round for something that could have been decided at the technical interview?
Their data engineering team is growing and their product sounds good. However, be careful what you say when asked what you are interested in doing in 5 years. I said I had an interest in machine learning. I think this is what got me axed. Which doesn't make sense.
Not really transparent - confusing feedback.
