This was one of the most unusual interviews I’ve ever had. I applied for the position, and the first message I received from the recruiter was a direct interview invite with the hiring manager — no introductory call or interview prep. All I knew was that it would be a behavioral and technical interview. The manager showed up about 10 minutes late and began asking detailed questions about my current role. Since the team I applied for works on almost the same type of system as my current team, the conversation quickly shifted into a deep discussion about our architecture and specific technical cases — it felt more like a consulting session than an interview. The meeting ran nearly 50 minutes even though it was only scheduled for 30. The next day I received a rejection email. I never actually spoke with the recruiter at any point in the process, only received two template messages.
