Candidatei-me online. O processo levou 2 semanas. Fui entrevistado pela Square (Oakland, CA (Estados Unidos da América)) em fevereiro de 2020.
I applied online and was contacted within a week to set up a phone call with a recruiter.
The phone interview was straightforward and consisted of the standard questions you expect in an introductory conversation. The recruiter wasn’t conversational, and it felt like there was a list of questions she wanted to get through. She asked me about compensation right at the start before building rapport; it set the conversation off on a weird foot, as I would rather learn more about the role and company before sharing that information. My expectations were also significantly higher than the budget for the role, making me think I was overqualified and question whether it was a good fit during the entire conversation. The recruiter lacked ability to answer some of the basic questions I asked in depth or detail, which furthered my feeling that this role/team might be more junior than what I’m looking for.
I was asked multiple versions of "Why Square? Why this role? Why should we hire you?," which felt repetitive. “Why should we hire you?” it a closed-minded question and comes from a “screen out” perspective rather than “screen in” and doesn’t make the candidate feel valued.
I received a template email through the applicant tracking system letting me know I wasn't moving forward after about 2 days. While I appreciate that the process moved quickly and the decision was made quickly, the lack of personalization in the rejection email underscored my gut feeling that Square isn’t the right place for me.
