CenterPoint Ventures invests in early-stage high-tech enterprises in Texas involved in communications, technology infrastructure, consumer applications, and semiconductors. The company has invested in about 40 companies, mainly in Texas and the Southwest, including Active Power, Bandspeed, Mirage Networks, Silicon Labs, and Voyence. Its typical outlay ranges from $5 million to $15 million per portfolio company. CenterPoint usually exits its investments within five years via IPO, merger, or sale. The company was founded in 1996 by former executives of such well-known companies as Convex Computers and Texas Instruments. Since then, CenterPoint has raised three funds worth about $425 million.
