For Plastic Logic, it's eminently logical to print plastic semiconductors. The start-up company develops semiconductor production technology based on processes similar to those found in commercial inkjet printing. The technology is meant to enable chip makers to produce semiconductors and flat-panel displays by layering flexible films of polymers one on top of the other. Plastic Logic touts its technology as cheaper than standard lithography-based chip production. The company's investors include Amadeus Capital Partners, Bank of America, BASF, Dow Chemical, Intel, Oak Investment Partners, and Siemens. Plastic Logic was spun off from Cambridge University's Cavendish Laboratory in 2000.
