Prós

The pay is good for the position. However, you will be asked to wear many hats that would otherwise qualify you for a different title and pay that you will not be compensated for. The ability to work remotely from anywhere there is internet is a major perk. The company team feeling. You really do feel like a family and that everyone is there to make the product better. The health insurance is affordable. The RallyUp software is amazing and is already exceptional for what it offers to nonprofits. I truly believe it is a valuable product to any organization. The owner of the company is approachable and management throughout the company does not act like they are above everyone. Team feel for sure!

Contras

The company says they are a startup. However, they have been in business for many years. There are no policies in place on the employee side (i.e. handbook, sick pay, etc.). Was sick for over a month and a half (started as Covid) to never being given a straight answer on if there was sick pay or a sick policy. Ended up working through fevers and staying sick longer than necessary from not being able to take a day off without knowing if it was going to be an issue. Department specific: Do not ask for clarification on the non existing policies or you will have a target on your back. It will be brought up in future conversations and used as an insult to you. Real words "I've been thinking about your need for process and policy.....I can only imagine how you feel in our world...." There is a constant need to protect yourself from contradictory messages in Customer Success. No employee wants to feel they are giving 110% based on information provided from their manager, to only be told they are wrong when they follow the directions to a T. (And those directions are in writing) Beware the flexible schedule and ample vacation time benefit. Each department's vacation is managed by that department's manager. Although the employee is accruing paid vacation time in their bank, even if there is ample coverage and it is not busy, you will be guilted about taking any of it. There may be a time when it is approved to only be denied closer to the time off request. Weekends and holidays off are not a thing. You will be on call a few weekend days a month and be expected to work some holidays on call. The shift is 9 hours day (a lunch may or may not be available and you will lose it if you don't use it). Words of management, "Raises are not on a timetable. There are increases in pay, but no process." These may not be make or break issues for the next employee, however, I sure would have liked to know these things prior to starting.

Prós

Working for RallyUp has been a very positive experience. Coming from a company with a very inorganic and forced corporate culture, working here felt like a breath of fresh air. The atmosphere is collaborative and the dress-code is comfortable. New ideas and opinions are always welcome. You are given a good balance of autonomy and guidance in everyday tasks, and they encourage independent learning on a daily basis. You also get all the perks of working for a nonprofit, like feeling you are contributing your time and effort to a good cause, while working for a startup. If you like small work environments, this will be a great fit for you. You also have the added benefit of seeing your efforts translate into reality on a regular basis because your suggestions and opinions matter.

Contras

Meetings are very flexible and moved often to accommodate more pressing items. If you are a strict planner, this might be an initial challenge for you, but it is a normal part of startup culture. Because the culture is so organic and unforced, this can have a side effect of an expectations gap when you start. Ask questions and get a sense for the everyday expectations (when to arrive, dress code, general office policies). If you come from a larger organization, it might not occur to you to ask. Everyone is happy to help you get acclimated to working here.
