Contras
This company hires mostly young people who have recently graduated college with little comparable work experience. Many older / experienced staff leave quickly. Comments below are based on what’s been seen in multiple departments. If you decide to apply, get everything explicitly stated in writing before you start. Do not go for ambiguous phrasing such as “bonus up to $__ at management’s discretion.” MANAGEMENT • Mushroom management • Micromanagement • Poor communication • No transparency • Expect you to solve problems with no advice or help • You have to manage upward • Favoritism / bullying • Gaslighting from CEO WORK • All departments seem understaffed and overworked • Using old tech so CS skills only improve if you study or practice outside of work • Developers spend more hours in meetings than writing code • If you don't set boundaries you will have no work-life balance • Constant last-minute due dates and frantic changes until the final second • You have to fulfill overblown promises from CEO to make clients happy • Performance reviews don’t exist • Seems to be no connection between annual review or hours worked or quality of work and bonus or pay raise • Staff seem to be less helpful after a few years because their only reward for helping is more and more work BENEFITS AND PAY • Pay is about half industry standard or less • Benefits are sparse • Health benefits are basic, no dental coverage • No 401(k) / retirement options / FSA / HSA / stock • 10 days PTO so if you get sick it makes your vacation shorter • PTO policy is inconsistent and not explained clearly
