Prós

The people on the team are great, so knowledgeable and so willing to teach. They pay for lunch!

Contras

Accounting is an overlooked department, that only grows, if it grows, in reaction to acquisitions of new properties. Meaning that most people on the team are stretched thinly and new hires are thrown into the fire before they are fully trained for their new roles. Also expect raises that are less than 2.5%, year after year.

Working at Rutherford Management Company has been an incredibly rewarding experience. The growth opportunities here are genuine, and I’ve experienced significant personal and professional development since joining. What stands out most is how open leadership is to new ideas - if you identify an opportunity or see a better way to do something, you’re encouraged to build it out and see it come to life. The leadership and executive team are approachable, supportive, and truly invested in helping employees succeed. There is a strong culture of collaboration, trust, and encouragement, which creates an environment where innovation thrives and people feel empowered to take initiative. Since joining Rutherford, I’ve gained exposure to new challenges that have pushed me to grow both professionally and personally. I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside talented, motivated individuals, making each day a chance to learn, contribute, and improve. Beyond professional growth, I’ve felt genuinely valued as part of a team that recognizes hard work and supports individual development. Rutherford Management Company is a place where effort is noticed, growth is supported, and employees are encouraged to thrive.

This company is growing quickly, but that growth hasn’t translated into better support for the employees doing the work. Teams are stretched thin, workloads feel unsustainable, and there’s little follow through from leadership when burnout or staffing concerns are raised. Employee turnover is high. Instead of a collaborative or solution focused environment, blame and gossip at the leadership level seem to be normalized, which takes a real toll on morale. At one point, concerns about employee treatment in the Walnut Creek office were shared with ownership, but unfortunately no meaningful changes followed. Many of the same issues continue today, particularly in how director level leadership shows up and communicates. With stronger leadership training, clearer communication, and more accountability specifically for the managing director and director of operations, this could be a very different workplace. Until that happens, it’s hard to recommend this company as a place to build a healthy, long term career.
