A remote customer from the U.K. cannot access their database that is physically located on our shore. Network connections appear to be normal. What could be the problem?

This was a question geared towards the Backup Admin position I applied for. Being an expert in network infrastructure and security, I walked through typical settings to check and tests to administer. I do not remember the exact specifics of this scenario, but end result - it had to do with something in the application itself.
