I had sent in my resume in regards to the 3 DM open positions listed in the Texas market.
Shortly after submitting my resume, I had heard from someone in corporate. She and I spent about an hour talking about the opportunities in Texas as well as speaking about the company and its growth. She and I had a good conversation which left me excited about the opportunities. She had stated that she would be leaving my resume on the desk of the of the next person who would be in touch.
I then had a message from that manager. She and I were scheduled to talk. I had made myself available at the time for which we were scheduled and waited for 15 minutes for her to call me. After which, I had emailed and left her a voicemail trying to confirm if we were going to talk. She then had to reschedule me since she had another meeting. The next day for which we were scheduled, I had received a calendar update with a time change for the call. She had not contacted me directly to ask if it was ok to reschedule. I sent a message to confirm our time but then she said she had something else come up again. As a result we had rescheduled for a 3rd time. During that 3rd time, I was finally able to talk to her. She grilled me on my background and then did not allow me to ask any questions. She said she would pass it on to the hiring manager.
After writing the manager to thank her for her time, which was the following day, she wrote me back asking for a copy of my resume. (Please keep in mind that I had sent it electronically initially as that was for how the first person had contacted me.) I did send my resume over to her. Later that day, I had a missed call, and then a text several minutes later from that same number. In the text, it said "I would like to speak to you tomorrow morning if that works for you. I know you spoke to someone yesterday and I would like to follow up. So can you give me a call to set a firm time for tomorrow. Thanks.” I was a bit hesitant to call back as I did not know if the hiring manager would be contacting me, nor did the person texting me introduce what their role was within the company. I did end up calling back about an hour later leaving a specific message with times that I would be available the next day. The person called back later that night after 8:00 p.m. but failed to leave a message. The next morning I had a text from asking if I was available to talk. I had left a detailed message the day.
This person and I proceeded to speak during the time I was available. When I tried to ask what their position was within the company it seemed like they did not want me to know that. They just said all the DM’s were reporting in to them. I was given the opportunity to ask some questions which in the prior conversation with the hiring manager was not allowed. I asked where they were in the search and what would be the next steps if chosen. It was mentioned that they would be sending some people in to corporate to meet in person and that if they wanted to move forward that they would reach out to me via email for flight info. Within a couple hours of getting off the phone with, a DM from the company had called me. They failed to mention that a DM would reach out to me. At that same time, they were texting me asking for my personal information for a flight.
The next day, I received an address to a hotel. There was not any communication as to why I would be meeting anyone at a hotel as compared to the corporate office, which made me even more nervous.
I had a chance to speak to some of my DM friends whom also have had the opportunity to speak with some of the employees at Altar'd State. One of them had a similar experience with them. Another whose name was provided to them a few times by a staff member was disappointed when they did not receive any calls. Another one had helped staff a few of the stores and did not receive any calls back.
I can understand that in trying to grow a company and having a team that wears many hats can be challenging at times, I have been there. Communication is difficult at times as well. I have worked in those environments.
I was showing the staff that I was very flexible and on-call for each time they wanted to reschedule or contact me on the weekend or by text or email.
It was very concerning that someone would be so unprofessional that was trying to hire leadership. People work for people. People like to have good communication. That is what keeps them motivated.
