      Entrevista

      HR reached out and set up initial interview a few weeks following the submission of my application. 30 minute basic interview with HR/talent acquisition. Following that I had a 30 minute scheduled Skype interview with hiring manager. The conversation was great and the interview ran long. Seemed genuinely interested in me. Had a second interview with hiring manager, this time scheduled for 1 hour, again we went over. Continuing where we left off. Getting positive reinforcement and am being told that my experience and skills match up perfectly with what they are looking for. Great. Two more Skype interviews with two different members of upper management team. Again, interviews ran long, good conversations. So at this point I've participated in 5 virtual interviews. Next step I am asked to come into the office to meet hiring manager and check things out in person. 6th interview, in person... generally a positive sign. Up until about the final 10 minutes of this interview, I was getting the implication that the job was basically mine. So about 45 minutes into the in person meeting as we are walking around the office, hiring manager begins looking around around jiggling door handles. He pulls me into a small windowless room, clearly about to ask me something that he does not want his coworkers to hear. I'm sat down in a chair and, I quote, "Ok, something I've been dying to ask you for the past 30 minutes." Here I am almost an hour into my 6th interview for this role. I am prompted with this lead up to what sounds like an important question. What might you imagine you are about to be asked? The question was "How would you USE a Manager of Customer Insights to your advantage?" A manager of customer insights is not currently a role in this company, and had not been brought up a single time during the course of the interview process. This question was deflating and bizarre. I asked to provide some context as to what we are even talking about. The answer was not satisfactory to me, and was more confusing than anything. So I try my best to answer the half baked question. I know in the moment my answers are not very good, and I don't even recall what I really said... partly because I barely follow what I'm being asked. It felt like such a rug pull. Following this I was immediately rushed out of the building. I received a one sentence email from HR/talent acquisition about a week later saying they were going with another candidate. Sorry, two sentence. The second sentence had the audacity to encourage me to apply again if I see a job listing that I might be a good fit for. So, after 6 interviews and a pretty pathetic rejection message for a management position, this felt like an extra slap in the face just in case I wasn't feeling crappy enough from the experience. Oh and I requested feedback from my interviews so that I can better understand their thought process and how I might do better going forward. And you want me apply again and subject myself to this? Truly insulting.
