Recruiter approached me directly. The recruiter was one of the lead engineers in the team. He was very passionate in technology. I felt this might be a good technology company in Hong Kong originally.
After recruiter's initial screening, he told me that I would interview with the team lead in the following week. However, the HR just forgot to schedule my meeting with interviewers. It hanged over a month in order to get my first interview.
The interview experience with the team lead was disastrous. It was a zoom call because of lockdown. There was only one team lead in the call.
Here were some issues throughout the interview.
1. The team lead was late because of his personal affair. He did not explain and even apologise for the late.
2. He did not turn on his camera throughout the interview without any explanation. This was a basic respect to the candidate in my opinion.
3. When I mentioned I was pursuing my post-grad degree, he thought that it would waste the time so that I could not 100% dedicate to the company work.
4. He had strong stereotype that the one who did not have prior experience in their fields would not be capable of the jobs.
In the entire process, zero technical questions were asked. He mainly criticised all my experience and my personal life, which was super inappropriate.
After the interview, I had got no feedback from the recruiters or HRs anymore as expected.
This was the most terrible interview experience I had in Hong Kong.
The interview process started with an initial HR screening, followed by a take-home homework assignment. After submitting the assignment, I had a technical interview with an engineer to walk through my solution and discuss technical details. Next was an interview with the hiring manager, and the process concluded with an offer.

Overall Experience & Process Integrity 😠
The entire hiring process took approximately one to two months.
I applied for a Senior Ruby on Rails position despite having no prior career experience in the crypto field. I was upfront about this from the very beginning of the interview process and was assured it would not be a deal-breaker.
Funnily enough, after completing all rounds of their hiring process—with the final meeting being strictly for cultural fit—I was rejected. The reason provided was that they were ultimately looking for a candidate with more crypto experience.
It makes absolutely no sense that I would pass the initial HR screening, two technical rounds (one assessment and one discussion with team members), proceed to a cultural fit interview, and then be rejected for a lack of experience. Given that the technical interviews didn't even heavily focus on crypto knowledge, what was the point of the extensive process? The inconsistency suggests a serious lack of structural integrity in their hiring approach.
Concerns About Professionalism and Stability 🚩
Throughout the interview process, I was wary of the numerous negative reviews citing bad management and a toxic work culture. I can unfortunately attest to the lack of professionalism, as my interview experience alone demonstrated no clear structure or integrity in the process.
Furthermore, I was told by the Senior VP that the company drops the bottom X% of performers every quarter. If you are looking for stability, you should absolutely stay away from this company. Huge red flag!
