      Entrevista para Textile Designer

      Candidatura

Candidatei-me por meio de recrutador(a). Fui entrevistado pela DICK'S Sporting Goods (Pittsburgh, PA) em abr. de 2026

      Entrevista

The HR recruiter reached out to me and she was great the entire time! There was a phone screening with her, then 3-4 zoom interviews with various members of the design team. I was working full time in office 5x a week, so it was a challenge to fit in all the meetings, though HR tried her best to accommodate our time zone difference. I did a pretty involved design project (while controversial, this has been required at every designer role I have interviewed for). This position involved relocation, so it required a final on-site interview (which was a 6hr flight for me) This is when things got a bit tricky. I was initially looking forward to the onsite interview, and hoping to be able to do it on a monday or a friday to spend the weekend in the area exploring my potential new home, but it ended up that I had to take a slightly last minute day off for a Wednesday onsite interview. (because the team does not go in office mondays or fridays). I only had one day off available, so I had to take an overnight flight to PA (with a connection), arrive at 7am, interview at 10:30am-2pm, then almost immediately had to fly back (with another connection). The in person interview was quite easy and short, we reviewed my project and chatted about start date. It was cool to see the HQ with all the amenities such as a gym, cafe etc, although it did feel like a remodeled hotel in the middle of nowhere to be honest. I did end up getting an offer, but ultimately declined due to timeline issues, and not having enough time to explore Pittsburgh before deciding to move there. I felt I was getting pressure from the design director to start way earlier than I was comfortable with, and they were very concerned from about my "delayed start"(the "delay" was about 2 months total from the beginning of the interview process to starting the job, which isn't that crazy as the interview process itself ate up about a month). This timeline pushback was concerning to me, as relocation often requires free time and some sort of "delay" so the new employee can have a strong confident start. The pushy attitude about my timeline made me concerned about the team's overall culture and a possible lack of understanding, so I declined :( It was a great offer and very fair salary IMO, especially for the 'midwest'
