I answered that it can be difficult to generate reports that seem meaningless or disconnected from my daily work. I think most people experience this feeling to some degree because would prefer that all our efforts be meaningful. I didn't apologize or make any "but" statements. I think it's a sign of maturity to know that work can be unpleasant sometimes.
