This is a problem space with which I am familiar. Having witnessed elderly users experience difficulty with TV remotes, my domain knowledge based on previous experience, and my personal experience with both universal and basic OEM remotes, I proceeded... I defined the problem space with who the target users are with a hierarchy of their needs/requirements. Devised F&F for this diverse set of user types while making it easy to use for elderly users' physiological challenges AND being robust enough for more adept users. My concepts included legibility enhancements, lighting consideration (glow in the dark, self-lit while in motion...), button/controls re-design and placement, hardware compartments containing advanced controls (accessed during specific use cases). Was a fun imaginary-yet-realistic product design test that covered a good deal of what day-to-day product design entails.
