Interviewed for a different job a few weeks earlier but turned it down because the commute was too long. This position opened up closer to my home and they called me out of the blue expressing interest in me, Took a few days of phone tag to connect, but given offer at same hourly wage as other job. I asked for a day or so to consider it and they obliged. Next day, I went into my employer and gave notice and called them to accept. Was another case of phone tag so I left a voicemail. They called the next day, apologizing because they'd interviewed someone else the day I accepted the offer and gave it to them because they could start sooner - but they had never contacted me to discuss my start date or given me a chance to make arrangements to start right away.
