Another moment that caught me off guard was when I was asked about SPL (Standard PHP Library). To be honest, at this point, I was getting a little fed up with the pressure. It felt like every answer needed to be perfect, or else I'd be marked down. So, when the SPL question came, I froze for a second. I wasn’t sure if he wanted a full rundown of the entire library or just a brief mention of a few classes. I said, “No, I haven’t really worked with it much.” Big mistake — and I knew it the second the words left my mouth. The whole interview shifted. He seemed almost annoyed that I hadn’t memorized the entire SPL suite and rattled off all the details. He looked at me like I had just failed some basic test. But, truth be told, I don’t use SPL directly in every project. Most modern frameworks or libraries already take care of that. I thought about quickly correcting myself, but it was too late. The vibe had already shifted — I had become the person who didn’t know something they should've. Even though I later realized he was asking about something I'd used before — like SplQueue, SplObjectStorage, or SplFileObject — it didn’t matter anymore. I was already categorized. This kind of thing really rubbed me the wrong way. In reality, experience is about knowing how to apply what you’ve learned, not just rattling off facts for a “test.” But, again, this interview seemed more about who can memorize the most obscure things than actually building real-world solutions.
