I absolutely require feedback. When freelancing, I will submit several initial concepts and continually revise the image based on client feedback. I've found many people who aren't graphic designers don't know how to articulate what they want, so I prefer to have regular feedback so I can continually adjust and stay on track to give the client what they want. I've found that while this can sometimes lead to slightly hurt feelings, I'd much rather have my feelings hurt than to work on something that gets ultimately and completely rejected and have wasted all that time. Wasted time hurts me more than a slight to my feelings.

Feedback is a requirement to prevent the initial stages of a project from taking a wrong direction, thereby saving everyone involved time and effort. A thorough initial interview, followed up by very early concept reviews of options and budget, as well as time expectations for client and designer are a must. Finally, making sure you are communicating with the decision maker will save headaches. I never let my emotions get involved as there are some people who must control everything, even if they are making bad choices, you have to back up and document, document, document that you stated you thought another direction would be a better option.

I personally welcome any and all feedback. I like to know if I am moving in the right direction and if I'm not then I can make changes, adjust my plans and move forward accordingly. I try not to take it personally and work through it the best I can.
