I would introduce myself to the student not only as a mentor but also as a friend or even a mother who wants to help him/her succeed in achieving his/her goals. I also need to access how he/she did in his/her previous course to determine if there are some skills that needs to be addressed in preparation for the present course. His/her previous knowledge will be used and integrated to new concepts of the course with examples. Practice exercises will follow until he/she demonstrates mastery of the lesson.
