How much money are you expecting?

I gave them an amount about $12,000 less than what I was already making. I told the lady that this was a position that was "close to my heart," and that a high salary was not expected. I was told that the pay would be closer to $20,000 less than what I was currently making. I believe that the interviewer did not believe me when I said that I would take a big pay cut for this sort of position. The way I am, very easy-going, and an older worker (past normal retirement age), I don't particularly care what people think of my...I want them to KNOW me from the start and I want to know their corporate culture (which I studied previously and thoroughly) so that I would KNOW them. I don't like to be surprised and don't want a prospective employer to be surprised. That's why I try to have a good job when I'm applying for another good job!
