I answered that I could do an upper intermediate level conversation "and I have HSK score". The interviewer said, well, "we don't care hsk that much, only that YOU REALLY CAN SPEAK". That might be a straightforward way to convey their goal? But with all negative responses from other questions, this made my impression worse.
