I was a travel nurse working at Brookwood hospital in Birmingham on the behavioral health department. I had asked another nurse to stop yelling at my patient. A short time later she cornered me in the break room and verbally assaulted me and threatened me. After I gained my composure, I called the director and asked to be assigned to another unit. If course the director wanted to know why so she called us both to her office. The other nurse was bragging about her aggressive behavior to the director and made a big deal about me not fighting back. I didn't fight back because I didn't want the situation to escalate. In the end, I got reassigned to another unit and the aggressive nurse was promoted to department head of the other department. I finished out my contract and did not renew when they asked me. You can't fix a toxic work environment. It's better to just leave.
