This is a standard internet communications protocol that allows digital commuters that are geographically apart to communicate. Internet is packet switched so the data is broken down into smaller packets and sent via different routes to their destinations. At the receiving end, the broken down packets are then reassembled by the TCP while the IP makes sure that what the destination the packet goes is correct.
