The interview was conducted in a small room by a female Personnel Manager and the Service Manager. The atmosphere was not pleasant and both parties came across as disinterested. I was asked to explain what I knew about confocal microscopes and due to my previous experience in a related field gave a comprehensive explanation of the operation and advantages of the systems. When I had completed my talk I was surprised by the Service Managers sneering dismissal of my performance and his comment “ You have just read all that up on Google you did not really know all that” . I was aghast, even if I had researched the information on Google then I do not think my effort should be dismissed in such a manner, at least I would have shown the initiative to have leant something about the company and its product. After the interview there was silence and feeling somewhat aggrieved I telephoned the company to find the results of my interview,whilst knowing full well what the result was. It transpired that the Personnel Manager was on holiday and continued to me on holiday on each of the several times I telephoned. I then asked to speak with the Service Manager and was told he too was on holiday on each of the occasions I telephoned. I have noticed that within any organisation one always finds incompetent individuals who have managed to manoeuvrer , themselves into unassailable positions in which they can then vent their personal frustrations and grievances and on society. I believe I met two of the finest examples during this interview.
