SITUATION. TASK. ACTION. RESULT. I was working in an upscale dinner/ bar restaurant. I altered the floor length cocktail dress, using fabric leftover from shortening the hem to replace the spaghetti straps with wider straps so I could wear a (real) bra and show less cleavage. I was sure no one would notice because the dress was black and I have dark skin. My tips were excellent! Young thin woman in a tight dress smiling and giving mostly men alcohol. Hey, it was the 80’s, I was in my 20’s, and wore the perfect shade of lipstick. I hope I do not have to return my feminist card. I was fired for non compliance with the dress code. I learned I should do more research of a potential employer to make sure the work is in alignment with my comfort level. I was initially embarrassed for being terminated but matured into a level of self reflection. I have no complaints about this employer, I think I was treated fairly.
