This was an entirely new experience for me. Had one call that was awkward but not awful. I'd ask an extremely basic question about their fulfillment model and then I'd get a 12 minute long response that had absolutely nothing to do with anything I'd asked. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. It was all very strange. Had a second call with a different person which went a whole lot better than the first and was momentarily encouraged. Then they ghosted me for weeks. I tried pinging my contact to find out whether or not we were still talking and at that point he apparently started calling my old bosses for references without saying a word to me about any of it. When he finally got back to me he gave me some bizarre line about "keeping it casual." I've never seen anyone perform extensive back-channel reference checks for a casual conversation before but that was his story. Who am I to say whether or not he was lying? IC folks seemed great but management came across as remarkably unprofessional overall.
