I applied online for a Assistant Store Manager position. Immediately I received an email stating to call the store for an interview. After I called and scheduled the interview, I went in for the interview about 4 days later. When I walked in the store, associates had already started to hound me about buying something. I informed them that I was there for an interview, but the still wanted me to try clothes on! After standing for about 10 minutes, waiting on the manager on duty, she finally came from the back and informed me that we were doing the interview on the sales floor! I was sort of surprised. At my current sales position, we did group interviews on the sales floor, but that was for an associate. I would think that an interview for a management position would at least get some privacy. She asked me the usual questions about what I did at my current job, why I wanted a change. She asked me some questions like, "What would you do in this situation?" and that type of thing.
After the interview, she said she wanted to schedule a phone interview with the district manager. I accepted. While we were standing at the cash wrap, she asked me if I had any questions, and I asked her if management was on commission. She gave me a very mean look, grabbed me by the arm and pulled me back to the "Urban" section and said "We NEVER talk about commission in front of the customers!!"
After that incident, I thought about the position and the atmosphere that the company likes to create in their stores, and I did not show up for the interview.
