Quick phone interview with HR and asked me to come in for two in person interviews with store managers. Depending on the position you are applying but overall customer service is important value to the company. Overall professional, but your experience might vary depending on the manager you are talking to. One of them asked me if I was born here which I thought little inappropriate and random. (I am a second generation immigrant and perfectly fluent bilingual). He also asked me if I drove which I didn't understand why because the job I am applying has nothing to do with driving or having access to cars. It seemed like he was leaning towards personal preference and convenience rather than actual experience or corporate guidelines. At the end of the interview he said he thought I am underqualified for the job which I understand is his decision, but asked me if I would be interested in cashier position. Being a working professional with 5 years of sales experience, I respectfully declined the offer as it would be a huge step down for me in terms of my career and finance.

Show genuine interest in home improvement / DIY or willingness to learn about it. Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) when answering behavioral questions. Be ready to talk about your availability (weekends, holidays) and how you function in fast-paced or changing retail environments. Even if the role is entry level, basic awareness of tools, departments, or how you would help a customer can set you apart. Prepare questions for your interviewer: e.g., “What does success look like in this role after six months?” or “How does the team handle busy periods like spring/summer?” Dress business-casual (retail appropriate): nice pants/khakis + collared shirt/blouse.
