I took an assessment that was part ETL, part of it was making a paper/rock/scissors app. I work full time and I am going to school so I was upset when they gave me an assessment that was clearly 6 plus hours of work. I thought it was all relatively easy concepts, but i underestimated how strictly it would be graded. They actually noted things like the code was not commented, that I did not break up my stored procedure into smaller stored procedures, and that I had spelling mistakes on my "readme" doc. The data set given was individual trades, you are supposed to take the data from the csv and populate a couple dimensions tables, and a fact table. I spent most of the time making a partitioned view with 12 base tables for each month (the data had to be kept 1 year, 1 table for each month) . I cut lots of corners because Im not getting paid and thing took hours. Everything they pointedd out I was completely aware of, but come on, its an interview and they are asking for serious time commitment. It was still a good experience actually.
