The bring home assignment was : to build a pubsub web API with the ability to scale up to 200k RPS with optional future authn and/or authz and backend messaging). They expect high-coverage unit-testing and documentation. The interviews entirely in Japanese. They are not technical. They ask about what you did in the past, what the scale of those services are. They also quiz you on company values. They'd ask precisely "what are the values of Mercari" etc. So I'd memorize their company value page in addition to prepping for behaviorial questions. They also ask if you are a user of their service and would deep-dive into that, to make sure you know their service. For me, the team member asked also **in terms of work and what I worked on at work**, what OSS contributions have I done. The team member and manager looks only at the things they wanted (although it was not in the job description). In that particular team, there were 5 people but 2 quitted in a one-year span. The member/manager are very near-sighted, not compassionate, which led me to turning down the final interview.
