The Air Force only hires for this position from within. Individuals must first apply for and be accepted for commissioning in the United States Air Force. The process is long and vigorous. Upon completion of all required training, the individual will usually be assigned various positions with increasingly greater responsibilities and requirements. Upon reaching the appropriate rank/experience requirements, the individual may be considered for this position.
