Applications submitted online are usually sent straight to hiring managers with HR doing minimal screening and primarily doing just the administration of the hiring process. Managers choose who to invite to interviews and the HR person just calls you to arrange the times. Unfortunately due to this and the fact that managers have to juggle hiring with the rest of their responsibilities - the process can be quite lengthy. That was the worst part of the experience, the long wait and uncertainty that it brings. First interview is with the hiring manager and usually some other manager. Sometimes there can be a second interview with the Director of the department you are applying for.
