That's always a sticky catch 22 question. If you pitch too high, they may think you want too much. If you pitch too low, they may think that you don't regard your self as being worth the salary or may offer you lower than you should get. So, do your research... oh, righty, you are already doing just that by being on this site, duh, and click on the salaries tab and find out what the position typically pays, then tell them that you would hope to start on the lower end of the scale, but you would gladly consider all offers. Of course I would like to get $5 million a month, but could survive on only $2000 per month, but if they only offer $2000 per month, I'm sure that you would rather be frying burgers at Burger King in the early hours of the morning or cleaning out bed pans and medical waste bins in the hospital rather than doing programming, right?
